Electromagnetic cover devices can be used for determining the position and direction of steel reinforcement and depth of cover to the steel.

Other applications include:

• Investigation of concrete members for which there are no records
• Location of reinforcement prior to some other form of testing
• Location of buried ferrous objects other than reinforcement
